The Bryn Mawr Historic District on the southern tip of Edgewater is dominated by classic vintage high rise hotels and apartment buildings, as well as stately manors and Romanesque churches; the area is also fitted with old-fashioned green lampposts reminiscent of designs found in the 1920s, when the neighborhood was fast growing.
Cult favorite Metropolis Coffee Company has its flagship cafe on Granville Avenue, just to the north. Running along Edgewater's lakefront are significant tracts of parkland and beaches, including the dog-friendly Foster Beach! There are many small beaches in Edgewater Beach, which can feel more secluded on hot summer days since they are off the beaten path. Summertime is also an exciting time to be in Edgewater due to all the outdoor dining options, including the Waterfront Cafe, which as the name suggests, is located right on the lake.
Loyola University begins at the northern end of Edgewater, extending up into Rogers Park.
